For a long time I had planned to write a book on the lovers I could have had. I reached now  the age when I am planning a book on all the real estate deals that I should have gone into.
Reminds me of  -having  no heart at 25 and being a liberal at 40.
 Thomas Jefferson preserved this quip, writing in a 1799 journal that Adams had said: “A boy of 15 who is not a democrat is good for nothing, and he is no better who is a democrat at 20.”

Gap

The gap between the political discourse of the traditional parties and the reality is so huge that it allowed straight talkers to advance in primaries;
Maybe Trump is not exactly a straight talker, but definitely he does not use the typical republican  lingo.
